The Art of Loyalty

Pet & Equine Photography by Perception Studio

Pets come in every shape, size, species, and personality — and I love photographing them all.

Dogs, cats, horses, reptiles, birds, bunnies, guinea pigs, monkeys… if you love them, I’m ready to photograph them!

Of course, dogs are the most frequent flyers in my studio, and experience is my biggest advantage. I’ve worked with hundreds of breeds and have learned how to read the subtle cues that make every animal unique. I know when to give them space, when to wait, and when to catch the perfect moment — even if it only lasts half a second.

If your pet is wiggly, nervous, overexcited, stubborn, or just doing their own thing — that’s okay. I’m patient, I’m prepared, and I know how to find the moments in between the movement.

FAQS

  • I’ve spent my entire life deeply connected to animals - so much so that I grew up being called “The Animal Whisperer.” Reading body language, earning trust, and communicating with all kinds of animals has always come naturally to me. While I don’t have formal behavioral certification, what I do have is a lifetime of hands-on experience that can’t be taught in a classroom.

From a young age, I was heavily involved in 4-H and threw myself into every animal-related opportunity I could find. Those early years taught me the fundamentals of patience, observation, and handling a wide variety of species safely and confidently.

As an adult, I expanded that passion through training and showing miniature horses. Those same skills translate beautifully across all animals, whether I’m photographing dogs, cats, horses, or something a little more exotic.

Because of this background, I know how to approach each animal in a way that puts them at ease, captures their true personality, and keeps everyone safe throughout the session. For show animals, I also gave a solid understanding of confirmation and breed standards. My experience behind the camera and my lifelong connection with animals work together to create photographs that feel genuine, expressive, and full of heart.

  • The session experience fee is due at the time of booking.

  • Deposits are non-refundable. I understand that life can be unpredictable, though. To accommodate these situations, you can change your session date one time without any additional charge.

Should it be necessary to reschedule for a second time, a $50 cancellation fee will be applied to rebook a new time.

  • While I do not offer in-home sessions, if your pet is unable to leave the property/travel and you have an outdoor space to work with, I am able to come to your home or boarding stable.

  • Consider your pet’s optimal comfort conditions - if they love the heat, summer is perfect. If they have a thick coat of hair and pant in the heat, fall/winter may be a better option. Pets can be photographed outside year round with fantastic results.

  • Having bright flashing lights, a camera in your face, and a weird lady making noises isn’t for everyone. And that’s ok! A studio session isn’t for all pets.

Using a long lens, in an outdoor environment where your pet is more comfortable, may be the better option. You can play like you normally would with them, while I do my thing from a distance. Sometimes that little bit of space gets them to warm up enough that we can change the approach later on if they decide to “open up”….and a lot of pets do! Working at their pace and comfort level is key to a successful session.

  • Absolutely! I’ll ask you more about your session intentions before you book - mainly whether the focus should be on your pet, or more so the bond you share. Pet and their people sessions can look a lot different - from candids, to posed formals, to capturing training sessions, just be sure to be specific about what you’re looking for and I’ll help you make it happen.

  • Some groups pose beautifully together, while others prefer to play, need more space, or simply don’t mesh well in the moment, and larger groups can add to the challenge. My goal is always to capture everyone together in a single frame whenever possible. However, when circumstances make that difficult, compositing can be used to create the final image. Please note that extensive compositing requires several additional hours of work and will incur an extra fee to produce your creation.

  • Without question, wall art and albums are the most impactful ways to showcase your pet’s portraits.

Wall art, whether canvas or framed, adds personality to your home and serves as a lasting tribute to your beloved companion. I’m a firm believer in “go big or go home” when it comes to pet portraits; nothing makes a statement quite like a life-size piece. Even better, every wall art option arrives ready to hang - no extra trips to the craft store or custom framer required.

Albums are perfect when wall space is limited or when you want your pet’s full story told in one curated collection. Simply choose your favorite images, and I’ll create a custom design for your approval before it’s printed and delivered straight to your door.

  • Galleries are typically sent out 2-3 weeks after the session. Your images will be fully edited in that time. Once your order is placed and payment processed, your digitals will be available online immediately, while product orders take 7-20 days depending on the exact product.

  • Your session experience fee is required at booking. I will send you an online invoice to just click and pay through Square, or you can mail a check or drop off cash at the studio.

The rest of your package is due at the time your order is placed. Payment can be made with cash or check, or processed with a credit card (a 4% processing fee will be applied to all credit/debit payments).

  • Yes! When three or more clients book the same date/location, a discount may be applicable for everyone. Ask for a custom quote based on your location and group.

  • You can! Gift cards are available in any dollar amount. I understand that photo sessions are an investment, and not every friend/family is able to gift a full session. Gift cards can be applied to both the session experience fee, products, or any of our specialty mini session dates.
