𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 — Update

This project has always been about celebrating dogs - not rankings, not labels, not “better than.” Photographing purebred dogs has been the main focus of this project- documenting breed heritage, defining traits, and the physical characteristics that have been intentionally preserved over generations and celebrating it.

𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞… 𝐈'𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐭.

Let's be clear - mixed breeds are NOT a breed, yes even your Labradoodle is not a breed. They are a unique blend of traits and personalities that may combine many different ways. Pure or mixed, all dogs are unique and deserving of love. One is not better than the other. And you can adopt a purebred dog the same as a mixed.

For the book, I’ve always planned to include a small number of mixed-breed dogs whose looks truly stop you in your tracks - dogs whose features don’t clearly point to one recognizable breed, but instead showcase a one-of-a-kind blend, rich in heritage. In fact, I have been quietly photographing them throughout the past year, too. These are dogs that visually tell a story all their own, and that should be celebrated, too.

𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭, 𝐈 𝐰𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐦𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞.

I’m specifically looking for dogs with distinctive, unusual combinations - dogs that don’t closely resemble a single breed and feel visually unique in form, coat, or expression.

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞.

Mixed-breed dogs are incredible, meaningful, and deeply loved as companions. This is about creating a cohesive body of work that highlights diversity in a very intentional way.
