Meet Wendi
the Whippet!
Living with a Whippet often surprises people who expect a constant athlete. Owners describe them as thoughtful, intelligent dogs who are keenly aware of their surroundings. While bred as a sighthound for speed and pursuit (they can run 35 mph), Whippets tend to be quiet, gentle, and observant in the home, moving through space with an effortless elegance and a lightness that feels almost cat-like.
Physically, Whippets are medium-sized, lean, and finely built, typically weighing between 25–40 pounds, designed for explosive bursts of speed rather than endurance. That athleticism shows up in moments of play or sprinting, but owners frequently note how content they are to settle afterward. They are willing partner , quick to learn, responsive to calm guidance, and rarely pushy, making them easy companions to live with.
What endears most people to the breed is the contrast: a dog capable of incredible speed who chooses softness and quiet connection at home. Whippet owners often describe them as sensitive, affectionate companions who thrive on comfort, routine, and closeness, offering a presence that is elegant, understated, and deeply attuned to the people they love. Whippets are very open to strangers, rarely bark, and make excellent family dogs.
