How a Simple Winter Project Breathed New Life into my Business
Everybody has been asking me, “Why All These Dogs??????”
Every winter, I dive into a personal project to keep my creative spark alive during the slower season—and to feed my imaginative photographer heart that’s always craving something new.
This year, I’d been toying with the idea of grooming school (yes, really!) during that classic “depressing downtime,” and I landed on a similar theme instead (at least for now - grooming school is not off the table): dogs portraits.
What started as just a fun couple shoots quickly turned into an obsession—I suddenly wanted to photograph every breed I could find.
Fast forward two months, and I’ve now photographed 70 different breeds. SEVENTY.
Honestly, I might be a little nuts. But I’ve never had more fun.
It sparked something in me that honestly should’ve been ignited a long time ago. I’ve been an animal person through and through since a very young age.
Sure, I’ve photographed plenty of people with their pets over the years—but focusing solely on the animals? That’s a whole different experience. And I’m sure you can tell, I’ve been loving every minute of it.
Dogs soon led to cats, which somehow led to birds, and hedgehogs… and then, believe it or not, to snakes. (If you know me, you know that’s a huge leap—because yes, I have a full-blown snake phobia. Yet, here we are.)
What began as a simple winter project has evolved into a full-blown passion—one that’s reignited my creative soul in the best way.
If it has fur, feathers, scales, and even the occasional attitude, I’m game to photograph it.
I’ve still got a list of dog breeds I’m on the hunt for, and I have no plans to slow down anytime soon.
Who knows—maybe one day I’ll be able to say I’ve photographed every single breed out there.
Until then, bring me all your pets. You can read the story of what got me into photography HERE. Just know, I have first hand knowledge of how important these pet portraits will be to you one day down the road.
If you have a puppy, start capturing their journey from the very beginning—and keep going as they grow.
If you have a senior pet, don’t wait. Photograph them while you still can.
Don’t talk yourself out of including your fur babies in family portraits. And at least once, give yourself the gift of a session with just you and them.
Because these moments? They’re worth remembering forever.
