How do I schedule a session?

The best way to schedule a session is to email me by using the contact form or directly to perceptionstudio1@yahoo.com with the following information - who the session is for, what type of session it is (newborn, senior portraits, engagement, child, family, glamour, etc), your availability (i.e. weekends only, weekdays after 4, etc). Include the best way to contact you (email or phone number). I usually respond within 24 hours, but please give me up to 48 hours because my schedule fluctuates daily. Also, I am closed on Wednesdays and will not return calls or messages during that time.

 

When do you typically schedule sessions?

My schedule is flexible as far as days of the week and hours, but I do shoot only a certain number of appointments per month. Weekend availability during the summer/fall is limited due to weddings, so you will want to secure your spot as soon as you know you would like a session if you are only available on weekends.

 

What is your Cancellation Policy?

 Please be commited to your session date and time and not cancel without good reason. Of course I understand that kids get sick, accidents happen, and understand there are times when you need to cancel last minute, but please make sure to take the time to notify me you will not be able to make it - especially if I am meeting you at a location. If you are more than 20 minutes late, also please call because your session may need to be rescheduled if it will effect another appointment. If you have to reschedule more than once you will be charged a $50 reschedule fee to cover loss of revenue due to cancellation.  If you have paid your deposit to hold a limited edition session space (mini session) your deposit is non refundable as your spot has been held specifically for you since only a limited number of sessions are shot.  If you cancel with reasonable notification and your spot can be rescheduled, your deposit will be returned.

 

How long does it take before I am able to view my images and when will I have products in hand?

Editing can take 3-4 weeks during the busiest time of year (June-Dec) to as little as a week during the slower months. Once I am finished editing, I will contact you to arrange your Session Premiere appointment, where you will come in to view the images and place your order. Once your order is placed, prints and digital files take about 7-12 days while specialty products (canvas, books) may take up to three weeks, sometimes more. If you need your images faster for any reason, you can pay an additional rush fee of $100 to have your images in as little as 48 hours (images only, not products).

 

Can I order reprints or additional products after my Session Premiere?

I hold digital negatives for 6 months before archiving the images. After minimum order requirements are met at the Premiere, you will have a print only ordering gallery hosted online to order additional images for one month (and orders may also be placed through the studio for 6 months without additional charges). After 6 months, you will need to pay a $100 fee to have images unarchived to order from (this fee is refundable if an order over $250 is placed). If you are unable to make a decision to order during your Premiere, please note that a 10% upcharge will be added to an order placed more than one week later and all minimum order amounts must be paid before proofs will be released outside of the studio.

 

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, payment plan options are available to stretch your payments out over a 6 month period for orders over $500 or three months for orders over $300. A credit card plus backup card number will be placed on file and the payment amount will automatically be deducted monthly until the balance is paid. Additionally, I accept cash, check and credit card or Paypal payment options.

 

What if it rains on the day of my session?

If the weather is threatening rain, high winds, sleet, etc. you need to call the studio to check and make sure your session is still able to be shot. If not, there is no fee or penalty due to a rain cancellation. Keep in mind that a cloudy sky or rain earlier in the day will not cause your session to be cancelled, only a high threat of inclement weather during the time of your session will.

 

Do you offer reshoots?

Reshoots are offered at the discretion of the photographer and are not given due to regretful decisions such as hair and clothing choices. Reshoots may be offered for child sessions if cooperation is an issue, but only at the discretion of the photographer.

 

Do you supply props?

Yes, I have a studio filled with basic props for people of all ages. I prefer to keep props simple/minimal so that the focus is on the child/person, not what is around them. For newborns, I have crates, baskets, bowls, furs, flokati, headbands, etc. and chairs, baskets, stools, etc. for older children. If you have a specific prop in mind for a session, please don't just assume I have it. Many of my props are vintage or one-of-a-kind and therefore different than what other studios may have. Also, discuss with me any props you would like to bring along prior to your session. And yes, I do allow pets to be brought into the studio with notification.

 

Do you have clothing and accessories available?

 If you struggle with styling, I am here to help! I do own lots of newborn options as well as a line of couture styled dresses from size 12 months - 10 years.  The options I own are available for anyone to use during a session and all are designer or vintage. Prior to your session we will talk about your session styling and discuss what you might want to wear, purchase, or bring along.

 

When should I schedule my newborn session?

The newborns you see on my site are photographed between 6-12 days. Unless complications prevent me from photographing a baby during this time, I prefer to photograph newborns during the first two weeks after birth to get the sleepy, squishy newborn poses. As soon as you know you would like me to photograph your baby, contact me to get penciled into the schedule (I only accept a certain number of newborns per month). Rarely are babies born on their due date, but a spot is reserved for you with a desposit and you just need to contact me about 48 hours after the baby is born (when things have settled a bit) and we will set a specific date and time for the session. If your baby has already arrived, don't hesitate to contact me - I may have a last minute spot open!

 

Do you provide makeup for sessions?

I work with a fantastic makeup/hair artist, Makeup by Rachel Lorraine. Rachel is available for weekend sessions of all kinds. Makeup can really add to the styling of a session - just check out the before and afters in my Modern Beauty gallery to see what I'm talking about. And while I am no Rachel, I am pretty good with makeup and have the ability to provide makeup services with pro level makeup to those who need a helping hand. Just ask for details about styling services.

 

What is your editing process?

A proper fitting wardrobe, makeup and hair, plus good lighting go a long way in creating an image that straight out of camera looks great! I prefer to keep my edits natural - basic blemish healing, skin softening, and color enhancements only. Does an image call for something a bit more creative from time to time? Absolutely! Editing is done to my standards to provide a consistent quality and style. What you see on my site is what you will get. On average, it takes me about 4-6 hours to edit a session - each image is handedited and given special care to create a specific vision, which takes time.

 

Where do sessions take place?

I have studio space and I shoot on location. I have a list of locations that are "tried and true" but I am game for new places as long as you can provide a few photos of the lighting and landscape so that I know the shooting conditions will be adequate to work in. As with most photographers, I have a certain type of lighting I look for that makes my portraits look the way they do, and what may look "picturesque" to the average person, may not translate into a good photo.

 

Do you offer specials or discounts?

Throughout the year I offer Limited Edition sessions, based on a theme or holiday, for one day only and these sessions are photographed at a discounted rate as they do not include the same one on one guidance and personal care experience my regular, custom sessions do. These are a great opportunity to get high quality images without the time or monetary investment required of a regular sessions.
